Do you think that a 12 yr. old girl should be wearing a fingertip Lenth denim skirt to school?
My daughter got a fingertip length denim skirt frokm body shop, and I’m not sure if I want her to wear it to school. What do you think?
Your daughter is starting to try to explore her independance. I bet she knows that you don’t approve of a skirt that short.
Try to avoid getting into a big fight with her! Discuss your concerns about her wearing a skirt that short, and aks her if she has any suggestions for a compromise. She needs to feel that she has some “power” in this issue, but it’s your job, as a parent to a young woman, to guide her and instruct her in your personal morals/beliefs.
I’d suggest talking about how others would perceive her dressed in such a skirt.
Then, why not turn this into a positive? How about a shopping trip? Not just your regular mall… go someplace new (maybe a neighbouring town, or if you’re in a suburband/rural area, the “big city”). Spend time with your daughter looking at fashion magazines, discussing what the trends are, then take her to the shops and look for age appropriate yet trendy outfits.
She wants to look cool and trendy, and is taking her cues from the media. But, do you really want your daughter dressing like Brittney Spears or Paris Hilton?
I’d also suggest maybe finding something to boost her sense of self. 12 year old girls can be very vulnerable to self-esteem issues. Having something like art classes (fashion design?!), piano or singing lessons, etc can give her a sense of confidence as well as another outlet for expressing herself.
Good luck! I don’t envy you having a 12 year old daughter! I’ve got three boys, and right now, they could care less what they wore!!
